The Plot
Peter Parker is a frustrated 25-year-old man living with his girlfriend MJ at an apartment in New York City. Though he is happy with her, he is frustrated with the fact that despite the works 24/7 as a white-collar worker in an office, he never earns enough money to support himself and MJ which causes him to frequently argue with her whenever he returns home late at night to tell her that nothing changed at his work. While MJ understands his frustration and is willing to provide him with support and help, she wants him to be a rational, understandable, and moralistic person who knows what he wants in life and is willing to do things better for society and not just resort to frustration to manage his problems. One day, Peter realizes that he was denied the promotion by his employer who decided unfairly to give it to someone else. This sets Peter off and he goes into the office, creates a scene which humiliates his boss and co-workers, and also beat up the newly promoted person. Because of how he behaved in front of everyone, he is fired from his job and when he returns to his apartment, he has another fight with MJ. This time, she leaves him and moves out of the apartment-leaving him alone and more upset.
Frustrated with his monotonous, uneventful, and ungrateful life, Peter wanders around New York City, looking for a job. In the process of looking for one, he comes across an experimental lab at a steel-mill factory where an enormous amount of spiders are present and residing in a giant glass tube. He becomes intrigued with their presence and while he is on top of one of the rooms, he accidentally trips, loses his balances, and falls into the tube which gives a large number of spiders the ability to sting his entire body, effectively transforming him into the webhead known as Spider-Man. Gravely injured, Peter goes to the hospital to fix his injuries and due to his exhaustion and blurriness, he collapses on the bed with the nurse coming to check in on him. The next morning, he starts to notice an occurrence happening to his body as suddenly sticky materials come out of his hands which allows him to spring webs onto different materials or people. When the nurse comes to his room with a food tray, he accidentally sprays his webbing all over the food which makes it difficult for him to eat. The nurse freaks out. When Peter returns home, he immediately researches the spiders which stung and discovers that due to the constant attack on him, he is now able to possess some of the qualities, powers, and abilities like crawling walls, spray web, and swing all over New York City. Peter is overjoyed because it provides him with the opportunities which he couldn’t get a regular person and he goes around the city, humiliating people and showing off his powers to the people only to annoy them or get in their face and boost his esteem. He also tries to get MJ to move back into his apartment by showing up in her workplace which is in the Daily Bugle, but she tells him not to do everything for her and make himself a better person by doing good things for society in general with the words “it’s not words that count, Peter, it’s your action that counts the most in your life”. By these words, Peter’s arrogant attitude becomes to wane off of his personality. He tries to use his powers to make society a better place with an example which involves him savagely breaking a criminal’s hand and arm that was going to harm a young girl and taking the girl back to her parents which causes the girl to become a fan of him and hug him.
Mary Jane’s friend Gwen Stacy who is a scientist at Midtown High School become interested in the web-slinger and tries to send him on various missions to save anonymous people from danger/harm’s arms with the help of her father-Captain George Stacy who is also a fan of Spider-Man and wants him to serve justice in society. Because of this, the citizens of New York begin to look up to Spider-Man as a hero and savior for them. Peter’s relationship with MJ becomes better as she begins to see the good in him and praises him for doing the right thing in his life by hugging him when he visits her at her workplace, as she is an employee at the Daily Bugle and like Gwen Stacy, takes a common interest in Spider-Man. While she knows that Spiderman is Peter because Gwen had told her about Peter telling her his secret but ordering her to keep it a secret from MJ due to her concern and safety.
A white-collar worker by the name of Flint Marko is in serious trouble because like Peter, he is unable to earn enough money to support his wife, who is dying due to stage four cancer. One day, when he disobeys, his boss fires him on the spot. He is devastated and when he arrives in the hospital, the doctors tell him his wife has died last night. Enraged at how low the state of bureaucracy is at his workplace and how unfair he was treated for doing the right thing, Marko murders his boss and is charged with first-degree murder and is sentenced to life imprisonment, but on way being transported to jail, he breaks free from the authorities’ custody and hijacks a car, but his car’s struck another, so he tries to escape on foot only to land into a place where an experiment is going on. The scientists activate their experiment without knowing that a human is in front of the machine. The experiment causes a bunch of sand particles to go inside his body and convert all of his cells into particles of sand and dust and this leads to the birth of Sandman. The next day, he suddenly arises from the experiment and causes havoc in New York City causing Spiderman to come in and save the day.
Norman Osborn is the CEO (Chief Executive Officer) of a giant company who is been ordered to leave because there’s been a campaign launched by another company who rivals him in regards to which products can be shipped to the customers. Norman is strongly in favor of socialism and his entire group of people agrees with him but the opposing company wants him to favor capitalism instead of socialism and so to get rid of him, the frame for the misuse of different goods and report to the authorities that he became rich by allowing a group of corrupt officials to negotiate with him in regards to the goods, products, and services. He was accused of being corrupt for sending different materials to customers of low quality and because of this, Norman is asked to leave his position as CEO of the giant company and his reputation and position are destroyed. Disgusted and enraged, Norman builds his entire body by exercising relentlessly and creates a mechanical suit along with a glider, and thus, Green Goblin is born. The first thing he does is to murder all of the other opposing companies and sets the entire building on fire with his pumpkin bombs. Spiderman arrives to save the day and becomes his enemy too.
MJ is asked by her boss to write an article on Norman Osborn and all the other things he’s been accused of so she asks to arrange a meeting with him. Gwen notices something’s wrong so she asks Spiderman to keep a watch on MJ to make sure she’s safe and sound. When MJ meets Norman at a café and interviews him on the things which he has been accused of, the process goes fine until she leaves and Spiderman, who was listening to the conversation on top of a gargoyle through the radio device provided to him by Captain Stacy, learns that Norman is the Green Goblin, follows him around and sees him trying to surprise MJ with chloroform. He intervenes and attacks him and they engage in a big battle but just as Peter is about to hand Norman over to the police, Sandman intervenes and attacks him brutally before subduing him unconsciousness. Sandman and Green Goblin form an alliance with one another and plan to take down the web-slinger without knowing who he is and together, they take the unconscious Spidey into Norman’s lair where they tie him up in a similar manner to the crucifixion and torture him relentlessly and brutally but MJ who superstitiously followed them to their hideout after being provided with information from a police officer who saw them taking Spiderman away distracts Sandman and subdues Green Goblin by hitting him with a hammer and unties an exhausted and bloodied Peter before taking him to his apartment, fixing his wounds, and caressing him for doing the right thing in his life.
Now, Sandman and Green Goblin plan to detonate bombs around numerous offices in New York City to put an end to bureaucracy and capitalism. So at midnight, the two break into numerous areas and plant explosive devices inside the offices, and give Spiderman a message, “you think you’re the hero, Spiderman? Think again because aren’t we the heroes?” Spider-Man teams up with MJ and Gwen Stacy to defeat both of the villains.
The drop scene goes like this: Spider-Man would find the explosive devices inside the offices and would defeat Green Goblin while MJ and Gwen Stacy would prevent anyone from entering the building and defeat Sandman. The finale takes place in an office building where Spiderman destroys the explosive devices while being aided by Captain Stacy. MJ and Gwen keep everybody outside and when Sandman notices the two, he goes after them, but MJ keeps him distracted by shooting at him several times which gives Gwen long enough time to stab him in the heart with a sword which causes him to evaporate into dust and sand, effectively bringing an end to the tenure of terror.
The Green Goblin encounters Spiderman and fights him again only to be beaten the hell, breaking his arm, his legs, beating him with his glider, and willing to impale him with it until MJ’s words echo in his mind and how far he would fall if he did it and it would déjà vu all over again for him. So, he lets Captain Stacy’s men take Green Goblin into custody, and while he’s taken away, he says “I am sorry, Spider-Man”. “Thank you for not killing me”. Peter responds by saying “I hope you’re sorry about what you were going to do to these people of New York City and you can be a good person based on the choices you make in life and the actions that would be the most important thing in your life”. Spider-Man is declared a national hero and a sculpture is made in honor of him and MJ while immensely proud of him for what he did, chooses to consider the decision being with him and before leaving him to talk with the young girl whom he saved early on in the film because it’s her birthday and her wish was to see Spider-Man, she gives him a hug and a kiss on the cheek and says “you’re the true savior of New York and while people would remember you as Spider-Man, I would always love you in my heart as Peter Parker”. Peter understandably allows himself to move out of MJ’s life so that she could focus more on her career and work. Gwen is promoted to being a scientist’s professor at a prestigious university with her father at her side and one day, she gets an invitation from Peter, her father, and MJ saying “let’s get lunch this Saturday at 4:0 p.m. shall we, Gwen”. Captain Stacy vows to work with Spider-Man to restore peace and justice in New York City and Peter gets a job in a warehouse factory and earns good enough to support himself while balancing his life as Spider-Man and continues to visit Gwen, MJ, and Captain Stacy from time to time. One day while he is sitting in the park, the young girl visit and they begin a discussion about what it feels like being a superhero, the responsibilities a person must have, and how to balance out their lives.
Here the movie will end!
